2011 saw a number of milestones within the Kimberley campaign, from the controversial Kimberley Land Council vote to the formation of the Manari Rd blockade and the quite contentious West Kimberley Heritage Listing. These events sparked a nation-wide reaction amongst the community, politicians and environmental and human rights groups. Save The Kimberley has always been supported interstate, however, we are now fortunate to benefit from the energies of a newly formed group keen to promote the cause regularly through events, at festivals and tour circuits. Following the successful rally at the State Library of Victoria, the small ‘Keep the Kimberley’ team from Melbourne decided to join forces with Save The Kimberley, in order to raise awareness in the east.
