Please see the following media release for more details including the network’s contact details at the end.   NITV’s MOMENTUM BRINGS YOU THE BATTLE OF JAMES POINT It’s a David and Goliath battle if there ever was one – Mining giant Woodside Energy, the Federal Government and Western Australian State Government up against one man:  Senior Law Boss and Goolarabooloo man Joseph Roe. The battleground is an unspoilt bay on the Kimberley Coastline, just 60 kilometers north of Broome. It is where Woodside Energy, with the blessing of the State and Federal governments, want to build the infrastructure to service the huge natural gas deposits that lay 400 kms offshore. It is a project worth billions of dollars in royalties to the Federal Government. It is also worth billions of dollars and, hopefully, lots of jobs to the local Indigenous community. The Kimberley Land Council strongly supports it. But one man stands in the way. Joseph Roe is the Senior Law Boss for this country and he is not interested in the dollars or the development. He will fight all the way to the Federal Court to save his country. He proudly states that “ My culture, my heritage, it’s been placed in that country mate, it’s priceless to me and I will defend that”. Roe also argues that there are many species of marine life that will be endangered because of Woodside Energy’s mining  including the majestic Humpback Whale. Another central figure of the battle is Peter Garrett, the Federal Environment Minister, who has the final say on whether the gas hub will go ahead in this pristine location. Momentum talks to the key players as it investigates the politics and strategies that will decide the future of the James Price Point gas hub. NITV’s Momentum is presented and executive produced by Walkley Award winning Indigenous journalist Julie Nimmo. Momentum returns Tuesday 1st June 2010 at 8:30PM AEST. Don’t miss it!
